Years after the initial release of the wildly successful iPad, Apple has finally released the iPad Mini. This product not only boasts many of the favorite features of the original iPad, customers are now using this device as an alternative eReader. For those that are looking to make the transition over to the iPad Mini, here is a closer look at all of its prominent features, specs, and some of the options that make it a great option as an eReader.

Design and Layout

The traditional size for many of the most popular tablet PCs has been within the range of nearly 10 inches. With the iPad Mini, the 7.9 inch screen remains large enough to use the device comfortably while still small enough to hold with one hand for an extended period of time. Apple has also decided to opt for a thin metal shell instead of the plastic composite used on some of their other models. The iPad Mini also comes in at just .68 pounds and is 7.2mm thick, nearly 23 percent thinner than the full-sized iPad and 53 percent lighter. Customers will once again be able to choose between a white and silver or black and slate exterior with a wide variety of options for impact-resistant cases.

Specs

Just as with most Apple products, the specifications of iPad Mini are especially impressive and a key selling point for many. The base model of the iPad Mini has the A5 model CPU, 512 MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 1024 x 768 display. Customers will also be able to choose wireless LTE and 16GB, 32GB, or 64Gb of space. All of the traditional software features of the larger iPads have been included as well such as access to the iTunes market for apps, movies, books, music, and more.

Cons

While this device boasts features that have made it exceptionally popular, some customers may find a few drawbacks. The first comes down to the RAM of the iPad Mini, with 512 MB being the bare minimum for many popular apps and services. The price for the iPad Mini ranges from $329 for the base model to $659 for the 64 GB version with wireless 4G compatibility. This puts the product on the high end for both tablet PCs and eReaders. The final issue that customers may have is the glossy display, a feature that can make reading in direct sunlight difficult.

Conclusion

In the end, fans of Apple are sure to find a number of standout features that will make this a multi-functional device that can be used every single day. Many of those that use the iPad Mini will enjoy the ability to seamlessly move between their favorite novels, magazines, online blogs, music, movies, and more.
